Bed Bug Aprehend Treatment

Bed bugs hide. Aprehend® waits for them to move.

When heat isn’t practical—or you want residual pressure after we leave—Prodigy Pest Solutions offers Aprehend® bed bug treatment: a fungal biopesticide applied where bed bugs travel so they pick up spores on contact and carry the infection back to their harborage.

We’re a family-owned company led by President Matt Kelley, an Associate Certified Entomologist (ACE), serving homes and hospitality across Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester Counties. Call 267-603-1811 for an inspection and a clear recommendation.

What Aprehend® Is

Aprehend® is an EPA-registered biopesticide built around spores of the fungus Beauveria bassiana. It’s applied as a ready-to-use oil formulation in thin barriers along pathways bed bugs use—bed frames, box springs, furniture edges, and other travel routes—not as a fog or whole-room spray.

Unlike many conventional insecticides that need prolonged surface contact, Aprehend® works when bugs walk across those barriers. Spores stick to feet and body, germinate, and penetrate the cuticle. The fungus grows inside the insect and kills it over several days. Infected bugs can transfer spores to others in the harborage—so the colony helps do the work.

Used as labeled, Aprehend® offers a different mode of action from typical pyrethroid sprays, with residual barriers that continue to challenge bugs moving through treated zones. Residual duration depends on conditions and labeling; we’ll explain what to expect on-site.

How It Works

Bed bugs travel to feed and return to cracks, seams, and furniture joints. Aprehend® turns that behavior against them.

What happens after application:

  1. Strategic barriers — We place Aprehend® where inspection shows bed bugs are likely to walk.
  2. Spore pickup — Bugs crossing treated surfaces pick up dormant fungal spores.
  3. Harborage transfer — Spores ride back to hiding spots and can spread among aggregated bugs.
  4. Infection & mortality — Spores germinate, penetrate the cuticle, and typically kill exposed bed bugs within several days (commonly 3–10 days depending on dose and conditions).

This is targeted biology—not a perfume-and-pray aerosol. Inspection comes first so we treat the right pathways and set honest expectations about timeline and follow-up.

When Aprehend® Fits vs. Heat

Whole-home bed bug heat treatment is our strongest offer for aggressive, suite- or home-level knockdown: lethal temperatures throughout the treated space, including eggs when the cycle is run correctly. Aprehend® is a different tool.

Aprehend® often fits when:

  • Heat isn’t practical for the layout, schedule, or contents
  • You want residual pressure along travel routes after application
  • You’re dealing with a localized or early-stage problem where barriers make sense
  • Hospitality or multi-unit situations need a plan paired with monitoring
  • Inspection points to a combined or sequenced approach rather than heat alone

Heat often fits when:

  • Activity has spread beyond one sleeping area
  • You need whole-space intensity in a single treatment window
  • You prefer a chemical-free heat process for the primary knockdown

Not sure which path is right? Inspection decides. Compare options on our bed bug heat treatment page, or call 267-603-1811.

Prep & What to Expect

Aprehend® typically needs less disruption than whole-home heat, but prep still matters. You’ll get property-specific instructions; start here:

  • Reduce clutter around beds, sofas, and furniture edges so we can reach travel routes
  • Strip and launder bedding when asked; bag clean linens until after treatment
  • Leave access to bed frames, box springs, nightstands, and baseboards
  • Follow notes on recent insecticide residues—some products can interfere with fungal viability
  • Plan for people and pets per the label and our written sheet

On treatment day: We inspect, confirm Aprehend® is appropriate, and apply barriers in key zones. You won’t see an overnight wipeout—mortality builds as bugs contact treated surfaces and infection progresses. Aprehend service includes 3 visits about 2 weeks apart, and we’ll cover normal post-treatment activity and when to report concerns.

Cost: A bed bug inspection is $295 plus tax, and if we find bed bugs and you book treatment within 30 days, 50% of the inspection fee goes toward your treatment. Aprehend treatment is quoted per home after the inspection. It includes 3 visits about 2 weeks apart and a 60-day warranty. See pricing & warranty.

FAQs

What is Aprehend® made of?

Aprehend® contains spores of Beauveria bassiana in an oil-based, ready-to-use formulation. It’s an EPA-registered biopesticide for bed bug management when used as labeled.

How long until bed bugs die?

Exposed bed bugs typically die over several days as the fungus germinates and grows inside them—not instantly on contact. We’ll set a realistic timeline based on infestation level.

Is Aprehend® safe for family and pets?

When applied by trained technicians according to the label, Aprehend® is designed for indoor use in living spaces. We’ll review re-entry and site-specific precautions before we leave.

Do I still need to prep?

Yes—usually lighter than heat, but clear access to beds and furniture pathways still matters. You’ll get a written checklist.

Can Aprehend® replace heat?

Sometimes. Heat remains our strongest whole-space option. Aprehend® may be the better primary tool—or part of a broader plan—when heat isn’t practical or residual barriers are the priority. Learn more about heat.

Will bed bugs come back?

Treatment addresses bugs that contact barriers in the treated space. Reintroduction from travel, guests, used furniture, or untreated neighboring units is still possible. After we treat, you can join our Bed Bug Care Plan: a 1-year agreement with 4 Aprehend applications 90 days apart, from $1,800 per year.

Do you treat hotels and apartments?

Yes. We work with homeowners, authorized renters, and hospitality properties across our service area. See commercial service.

How much does treatment cost?

A bed bug inspection is $295 plus tax. If we find bed bugs and you book treatment within 30 days, 50% of the inspection fee goes toward your treatment. Aprehend treatment is quoted per home after the inspection. It includes 3 visits about 2 weeks apart and a 60-day warranty that starts at your first treatment.
